We are running a fun class at Leeds Kirkgate Market this Saturday 26th January from 11am – 2pm dedicated to teaching you some beautifully simple techniques to breathe new life into your clothes.

All you need to do is bring in an item from your wardrobe thats screaming out for a make over! We will inspire you with a range of creative ideas to get your imagination flowing….show you how to put your design down on paper and help you turn your re-vamping dreams into reality!

Whether you’re a closet jumper-chopper, a button freak or would-be sewer you’re guaranteed to have fun and be your very own fashion designer for the day!

If you are interested in joining our class please call or text 07977 469722 to book your place or find out more.

Calling all creative 2012 participants…Stay calm…we’re writing a book!

Oh we are very excited! Thanks to the Resident Amenity Fund at Leeds Federated Housing Association our group now has the fantastic opportunity to  write a book all about the experience of being involved in the Passion4Fashion project this year!

The book has a working title of From Scrap to Catwalk and will contain 25 case studies about people involved in this years’ project. In their own words, we will hear some really inspiring stories as well as seeing how some amazingly creative outfits have been constructed and importantly learn how to re-vamp our old clobber!

From Scrap to Catwalk will also feature our wonderful Kirkgate Market, a historical background of manufacturing in Leeds and a guide to lovely crafty and vintage shopping in Leeds!

Phew, sounds pretty good doesn’t it! Right now, we’re beginning to put together our fabulous case studies so if you were a participant in this years Passion4Fashion project and would like to share your success in our book, then we would love to hear from you! We have been overwhelmed by the creativity we’ve uncovered lurking in Leeds this year and really are excited about getting some amazing work and stories into print!

If you would like to be featured in From Scrap to Catwalk then please call or text Sue on 07977 469722 0r email sue.jennings@lfha.co.uk or better still comment on the blog!

Any budding writers, designers, photographers out there fancy gettting involved? yea…we’d love to hear from you too! :)

Worried about Welfare Reform? Get yourself to a roadshow!

Leeds City Council has organised 12 ‘roadshow’ events over the next three months in Leeds to make sure anyone with concerns or questions about Government changes to benefits can speak to an expert advisor in person and take away any information they may need.

The first roadshow is on 16 November at Armley One Stop Centre followed by one on 19 November at the Great George Street One Stop Centre in the city centre, both from 9am to 3pm. Any one worried that they may be affected by changes to benefits through the Welfare Reform Bill is urged to attend.

From April 2013 the Government is bringing in a number of changes which will affect the amount of benefit people get. The changes include:

 Housing Benefit – under-occupancy
Nationally the amount of Housing Benefit paid to working age tenants who live in council or housing association properties will be reduced, if they have more bedrooms than the family needs under the regulations.

 Benefit Cap
There will be a national cap on the amount of benefits a single person or family can receive. The cap is limited to £500 a week per family, and £350 a week for a single person.

 Council Tax Benefit
National funding for local council tax benefit schemes is being reduced. This could see working age customers receiving less support.

Universal Credit – another change, but from October 2013
Nationally there will be a single monthly benefit payment. This will be called Universal Credit. It will replace Income Support, Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, Income Related Employment and Support Allowance, Housing Benefit and Tax Credits.

Here are the roadshow dates up to the end of January 2013. You can call in at any time between 9am and 3pm.

Armley One Stop Centre 16 November
City Centre – Gt George Street One Stop Centre 19 November
